Calisthenics for Beginners
Want to start calisthenics but not sure where to begin? Calisthenics uses your own bodyweight to build strength, control, mobility and skills. You do not need a large gym: a strong foundation, consistent training and a few simple tools can take you a long way.
What is calisthenics?
Calisthenics is built around movements such as push-ups, pull-ups, dips, squats, holds and progressive bodyweight variations. As you get stronger, you can work toward skills such as L-sits, muscle-ups, handstands, front lever and planche progressions.
Which exercises are best for beginners?
Start by building a strong base. Use incline or standard push-ups, rows or assisted pull-ups, dips or supported dip variations, bodyweight squats, hollow body holds and dead hangs. Focus on clean technique and full control before making exercises harder.
What equipment do you need?
You can start with no equipment at all, but a few tools make progression easier. Parallettes are useful for push-ups, L-sits and planche work. Resistance bands help with assisted pull-ups, mobility and warm-ups. Gymnastic rings add instability and are useful for rows, dips and strength work.

How often should you train?
For many beginners, three to four sessions per week is a strong starting point. Train hard enough to progress, but leave room for recovery. Increase volume and difficulty gradually.
Train with structure
Random workouts can work, but a clear plan makes progress easier to track. The MotionBar Bar System is a 12-week calisthenics training program focused on strength, skills and control.

Start small and stay consistent
You do not need to perform a muscle-up or handstand on day one. Build your foundation, improve your technique and increase the challenge step by step. CONTROL YOUR BODY. CONTROL YOUR MIND.
